Module 6NM: Nanoparticle and thin film technology (SOMS5600)

An introduction to the synthesis, characterisation and applications of nanoscale films and powders

This module will provide:

  • An understanding of methods for producing and characterising nanoparticles and thin films of inorganic materials.
  • Hands-on training in synthesising nanoparticles and films.
  • An appreciation of their potential applications in electronic, biomedical and structural engineering.

Outline syllabus

  • Introductory overview.
  • Nanoparticles for electronic and structural materials.
  • Nanoparticles for biomaterials.
  • Thin-film ferroelectrics and photonics.
  • Other types of film.
