A confocal laser scanning micrograph representing the evolution of structures of a membrane-forming amphiphilic copolymer in contact with water. These amphiphilic copolymers self-assemble into membrane structures that comprise an hydrophobic layer with thickness of 2.4 nm protected by two hydrophilic layers. This image shows the formation of multilamellar tubular structures. These have very similar morphologies to the myelin sheets that protect the neuronal cells.
